Destruction of data & Sanitisation
Many matters require assurance that data is completely and permanently destroyed. This need may arise in cases involving stolen intellectual property. Simply ‘deleting’ a file does not mean it cannot be recovered easily. It is possible with the right techniques for information to be completely and permanently destroyed.
We were required recently to provide assurance that certain stolen data was removed and permanently destroyed on the accused person’s computer. We were able to locate and erase the files, and present a report that the files were irrecoverably erased.
Data destruction is needed at the closure of most forensic examinations, where various copies exist having been created from the original exhibits. Hard drives and other storage devices can be forensically sterilised and certified to be completely free of the original data.
Finally, data destruction is needed when computers are replaced, to ensure all confidential files are permanently removed from the old hard drives.
We have tools and knowledge to erase data and provide certification that all information is completely and permanently destroyed.
