Spyware:
Software can be installed on a desktop computer or mobile device to monitor activities carried out on the device. The software typically sends reports of this information out via the internet connection to an email address where persons can collect and review the information. The software is often used in an unlawful manner. Typical activities recorded are emails (to and from), system performance monitoring, clipboard contents, instant messages, documents printed, files sent or received (i.e. via email), every keystroke (capturing user ID’s and passwords!), website pages viewed and URL’s typed, and screen shots of whatever is displayed on the screen. The nature of this software is ‘stealth’ and they can be difficult and time consuming to identify.
